Dr. Zupan specializes in Materials Expert and Solid Mechanics Expert Forensics witness testimony. He applies engineering principles and research to help clients understand a loss, litigation or arbitration. Dr.  Zupan is a researcher and educator who can take complex scientific concepts break them down, explain them and educate the layperson. He has the ability to craft reports and expert testimony that will educate the unqualified person so critical principles are understood. As an expert with extensive international experience, Dr. Zupan specializes in complex arbitrations and cross-border disputes, bringing his forensic engineering expertise to cases that span multiple cultures and global frameworks. As an expert, he has dedicated his career to bridging the gap between complex engineering principles and real-world applications. His approach combines rigorous academic expertise with practical industry and goverment research insights.

Dr. Zupan earned his Doctoral and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering (Materials and Solid Mechanics Thesis) from the Johns Hopkins University. He subsequently completed his Post-Doctoral work at the Micromechanics Centre at the University of Cambridge, U.K. As a Fulbright Scholar (Portugal) and National Science Foundation International Research Fellow (United Kingdom) Dr. Zupan has proven cross-cultural international skills enabling him to bring a far-reaching and unique view to your investigation. Dr. Zupan has over 60 indexed peer reviewed scientific publications and routinely presents at technical science conferences.  His academic research and pedigree allows him to draw scientific conclusions and effectively educate his findings to the lay person. He has more than 25 years of experience teaching and researching materials, metallurgy and solid mechanics. 

Dr. Zupan grew out of University-driven academic research and global experience. His investigations are comprehensive; his reports are peer-reviewed by experts; and his testimony is well-targeted to a non-technical audience. His background in materials research, solid mechanics analysis, and manufacturing, combined with his knowledge of international supply chains, allows him to identify a point of failure within the complex process. As an educator, he can distill complex science into clear terms. Dr. Zupan serves as an expert witness for both plaintiff and defense cases, and his skills are proven at every level of the legal process – from site-investigation through exemplar testing and analysis, to deposition and trial testimony.
