Heonjune (Heon) Ryou, PhD, is a Materials Scientist and Mechanical Engineer specializing in the deformation and fracture of materials under extreme conditions. His expertise encompasses hierarchical, multi-length-scale analyses—ranging from the macro to the atomic level—enabling advanced investigation of the design, manufacturing, and performance of materials exposed to harsh environments.
Over more than a decade of professional and research experience—including eight years at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory—Dr. Ryou has served as a Subject Matter Expert on advanced materials for hypersonic and marine applications, environmental fracture resistance, extreme environment materials, and additive manufacturing.
His experience spans both research and application, having worked as a forensic engineer investigating fractographic failures and fatigue in engineering structures, and now providing scientific and engineering expertise at APEX Applied Science and Engineering.
