Mr. Saunders earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Physics and Mechanical Engineering as well as a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Saunders is a licensed professional engineer in several states. Through the course of his career Mr. Saunders has developed a broad experience base in applying physics and engineering first principles to evaluate the problem at hand with a focus on understanding the underlying driving parameters. The focus of Mr. Saunders work is to provide his clients with a clear, well documented, and supportable mutual understanding of the situation and to support his client in explaining these circumstances to the intended audience at the appropriate technical level. A mutual understanding and clear explanation will always benefit those involved.

While an undergraduate Mr. Saunders was a co-op student with the Department of Defense / United States Navy, helping pay for his undergraduate education. Mr. Saunders started his career with military aviation gaining experience with fixed wing, missile, and helicopter systems. During this time Mr. Saunders had the opportunity to co-lead a design team developing a dual role helicopter transmission system from clean paper through flight test and operational evaluation. In the early 2000’s, Mr. Saunders moved into failure analysis and forensic engineering. Mr. Saunders work in failure analysis was a natural evolution from the testing and development of complex mechanical systems and allowed him to broaden his perspective from aviation.

After approximately ten years in forensic engineering, Mr. Saunders formed Beacon Scientific LLC, an engineering company focused on data driven failure analysis and engineering consulting. Under Beacon Scientific Mr. Saunders expanded the available tools for supporting clients, including advanced analytical software and a broad array of test and evaluation equipment. In 2024, Beacon Scientific merged with Tripos Enterprises to form Apex Applied Science and Engineering.
